Welcome to MindCare for Seniors

An Initiative by Sriharish

At MindCare for Seniors, I believe that mental well-being is just as crucial as physical health, especially for our elderly community. Through this initiative, I am dedicated to improving the lives of seniors by building meaningful connections, offering creative outlets, and supporting their mental health through engaging activities.

About Me

My name is Sriharish

I am Sriharish Kannan, a student at University Laboratory High School in Urbana, Illinois. However, my work outside of school is just as important to me. I’ve volunteered over 150 hours at Carle Hospital and have worked closely with senior care centers, where I’ve seen firsthand the challenges seniors face, particularly around mental health and loneliness. This experience inspired me to focus on improving the well-being of seniors, reducing isolation, and creating opportunities for them to feel connected and heard. As president of the student council and a leader in STEM outreach, I strive to make a positive difference in my community. I’m also a third-degree black belt in Taekwondo, an avid archer, and a cross-country runner.

Our Mission

Senior Book Club

At MindCare for Seniors, we aim to help seniors feel less lonely and more connected by offering fun and meaningful activities with the support of teens. Our goal is to create a space where seniors feel heard, valued, and part of a community that cares about their stories and experiences, while giving teens a chance to make a positive impact.

Why it matters?

As seniors get older, many feel lonely, isolated, and sometimes even sad. At MindCare for Seniors, we know that taking care of their emotional and mental health is key to helping them live a better life. We want to offer seniors fun and meaningful activities that lift their spirits, keep their minds active, and help them connect with others. Teens like you can make a big difference by getting involved and helping create these opportunities!

Teens play a vital role in bringing joy, connection, and support to seniors through meaningful activities and building lasting relationships.

01

Engaging Activities

Teens can help organize and lead fun activities like arts and crafts, storytelling, music, and games that bring seniors together and spark their creativity.

03

Focus on Mental Health

Teens can also lead mindfulness and relaxation sessions to reduce stress and improve the mood of seniors. Through open conversations about mental health, you can make a real difference in supporting their mental health and emotional happiness.

02

Teen Involvement

As a teen volunteer, you’ll play a key role in creating an energetic, welcoming environment for seniors. By building relationships with them, you’ll learn from their life experiences while helping improve their emotional well-being.

04

Building Stronger Connections

By spending time with seniors, teens help bridge the gap between generations. Not only do you help the elderly feel valued and heard, but you also gain important lessons in empathy, communication, and the power of connection.
